Antimicrobial resistance in Staphylococcus spp
Staphylococcus aureus and coagulase-negative Staphylococcus (CoNS) are the main agents of nosocomial infections. The antimicrobial resistance of these microorganisms has increased worldwide, justified by the selective pressure caused by the use of broad spectrum antibiotics. The prophylactic antibioticotherapy is also a concerning factor, because it increases the risk of infection, and difficul...
متن کاملA high prevalence of tylosin resistance among Staphylococcus aureus strains isolated from bovine mastitis
The macrolides appear to have considerable effects for treatment of bovine mastitis because of excellent diffusion into the mammary gland, long half-life, low protein binding, high intracellular concentration and lipid solubility. Acquired resistance to macrolides in Staphylococcus aureus is primarily related to target-site modification through acquisition of an erm gene. In t...
متن کاملFrequency of specific agr groups and antibiotic resistance in Staphylococcus aureus isolated from bovine mastitis in the northeast of Iran
Staphylococcus aureus is generally regarded as a leading cause of mastitis in dairy cattle. The aim of this study was to investigate the pattern of agr groups and any possible relationship between agr groups and antibiotic resistance among S. aureus strains isolated from bovine mastitis in Northeast of Iran. For this purpose, a total of 300 bovine mastitic mi...
متن کاملAntimicrobial resistance profile of Enterococcus spp isolated from food in Southern Brazil
Fifty-six Enterococcus spp. strains were isolated from foods in Southern Brazil, confirmed by PCR and classified as Enterococcus faecalis (27), Enterococcus faecium (23) and Enterococcus spp (6). Antimicrobial susceptibility tests showed resistance phenotypes to a range of antibiotics widely administrated in humans such as gentamycin, streptomycin, ampicillin and vancomycin.
متن کاملFrequency of serovars and antimicrobial resistance in Shigella spp. from Brazil.
A total of 296 Shigella spp. were received from State Public Health Laboratories, during the period from 1999 to 2004, by National Reference Laboratory for Cholera and Enteric Diseases (NRLCED)--IOC/Fiocruz, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The frequency of Shigella spp. was: S. flexneri (52.7%), S. sonnei (44.2%), S. boydii (2.3%), and S. dysenteriae (0.6%). The most frequent S. flexneri serovars were ...
